Former Yankees Star Mark Teixeira Wins Texas Congressional Seat
The three-time All-Star defeated Kristin Hook in Texas’ 21st Congressional District. He will succeed Republican Rep. Chip Roy.

Former New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira won election to the U.S. House in Texas’ 21st Congressional District, defeating Democrat Kristin Hook. The Associated Press projected the Republican as the winner early Wednesday, according to KTSA’s election report.
Teixeira will succeed Republican Rep. Chip Roy, who did not seek reelection while pursuing the Texas attorney general’s office. The district includes the Texas Hill Country and parts of northern Bexar County. Teixeira is a congressman-elect; Roy currently holds the seat.
The result gives Teixeira a new role after a 14-season major league career. He made three All-Star teams, won five Gold Gloves and three Silver Slugger awards, and helped the Yankees win the 2009 World Series, according to ABC7’s report.
Texas selected Teixeira with the fifth pick in the 2001 MLB draft. He began his big league career with the Rangers before later playing in New York. He and his family moved back to Texas in 2021 after his retirement.
