Report: Athletics Hiring Brewers Executive Cam Castro as General Manager
Ken Rosenthal reports Castro will become general manager under president of baseball operations Taylor Smith, bringing a pitching-development background from Milwaukee.

The Athletics are hiring Milwaukee Brewers executive Cam Castro as general manager, according to a Wednesday report by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
Castro would work under newly hired president of baseball operations Taylor Smith, making him the organization’s No. 2 baseball executive, MLB Trade Rumors reported, citing Rosenthal.
Castro joined Milwaukee in 2019 as a minor league pitching coach. He subsequently worked as the organization’s minor league pitching coordinator and director of pitching development before moving into broader player-development leadership.
His most recent Brewers role was senior vice president of player development and performance, a position he reached after the 2024 season. Before joining Milwaukee, he worked at Driveline and served as head baseball coach at Division II Lake Erie College.
The reported appointment brings a pitching-development background to a front office now led by Smith, who previously worked as a Boston Red Sox assistant general manager and as a Tampa Bay Rays analyst. The two executives would lead the Athletics’ baseball operations as the club builds toward its planned move to Las Vegas.
