Liberty Part Ways With Chris DeMarco After One Season
New York has a head-coaching vacancy after a season that ended in the WNBA semifinals.

The New York Liberty parted ways with head coach Chris DeMarco after one season, the franchise announced Tuesday, November 3, according to The Associated Press.
The departure leaves New York searching for its third head coach in three seasons. DeMarco joined the Liberty in December after spending more than a decade on the Golden State Warriors’ coaching staff. He had not previously coached in the WNBA.
New York reached the 2026 playoffs as the eighth and final seed before sweeping the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx in the opening round. The Liberty then lost in a semifinal sweep to the Atlanta Dream, ending DeMarco’s only season in charge.
He had succeeded Sandy Brondello, who led the Liberty to their first WNBA championship in 2024. New York moved on from Brondello after a first-round playoff exit in 2025, one season after that title.
The Liberty’s November 3 departure announcement included a public message thanking DeMarco. No successor or appointment date was confirmed in the announcement, leaving the head-coaching position open as New York enters another offseason search.
