Angel Gray Joins Ownership of Four UPSHOT League Teams
The broadcaster’s investment covers Charlotte, Jacksonville, Greensboro and Savannah; financial terms were not disclosed.

Sports broadcaster Angel Gray has joined the ownership groups of the UPSHOT League’s four founding teams, the women’s professional basketball league announced Tuesday, November 3.
Her investment spans the Charlotte Crown, Jacksonville Waves, Greensboro Groove and Savannah Steel, according to the announcement published by Charlotte. The release emphasizes her involvement in the Crown’s continued growth but does not disclose the size of her stakes or a transaction valuation.
Gray is the lead play-by-play voice for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream and works across ESPN’s basketball coverage. Her broadcasting experience includes the NCAA women’s tournament, WNBA Finals and All-Star Game, men’s college basketball and the NBA.
Before entering broadcasting, Gray was a four-year letter winner and two-year captain at Florida State. She played on teams that won two ACC regular-season championships and made four NCAA tournament appearances.
Gray said the investment would support opportunities for women to continue playing professional basketball in the United States. UPSHOT co-founder and chief executive Andy Kaufmann cited her experience as both a player and broadcaster.
The four-team ownership investment concerns the founding franchises. The league’s current six-team lineup also includes the Baltimore Starlings and Nashville Vibe.
