Brandon Aiyuk Files for Reinstatement, Plans to Report to 49ers Friday
Aiyuk’s agent says he plans to report Friday afternoon. His application does not confirm reinstatement or a return to San Francisco’s lineup.

Brandon Aiyuk has applied for reinstatement and plans to report to the San Francisco 49ers’ facility Friday afternoon, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
The receiver remains on the reserve/did not report list, according to ESPN’s report. His application starts the process of returning to the field; it does not establish that he has been reinstated or will play for San Francisco. The 49ers still control his rights.
Aiyuk has not played since October 20, 2024, when he tore the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his right knee against Kansas City.
The dispute with San Francisco continued during his recovery. ESPN reported that the 49ers voided roughly $27 million in guaranteed money in July 2025 after he missed required rehabilitation sessions and check-ins. He later stopped reporting to the facility and missed training camp this summer.
General manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan have repeatedly said Aiyuk will not play for the 49ers again, ESPN reported. His filing leaves the next roster decision with San Francisco.
The 28-year-old was San Francisco’s first-round pick in 2020. He earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2023, when he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.
