Jeter Credits Pat Murphy After Brewers’ First World Series Title

“The players play to their potential because of you,” Derek Jeter told Brewers manager Pat Murphy at FOX Sports’ postgame desk after Milwaukee won its first World Series title.

Jeter challenged Murphy’s habit of giving the players all the credit. Murphy replied that “your role as a manager is of service” and said players did not always like him. He explained that critical decisions served a responsibility to the team. “It’s to uphold those standards,” Murphy said.

Murphy thanked Jeter for the praise while describing himself as grateful to have a role. Earlier in the interview, he credited Christian Yelich and William Contreras with leading by example every day.

The appearances followed Milwaukee’s 4–1 victory over Tampa Bay in Game 5 on Wednesday, October 28, at Tropicana Field. The Brewers won the best-of-seven series four games to one, securing the franchise’s first World Series championship.

Yelich and Ashby Describe Accountability and Composure

In a separate FOX Sports interview with Aaron Ashby, Yelich was asked to explain the Brewers’ standard. He said “the standard creates the culture” and described daily yes-or-no checkpoints through which players could assess their actions and hold one another accountable. In his explanation, that accountability helped create winning and the clubhouse culture that followed.

Ashby was asked about his preparation and calm demeanor on the mound. “Keep it as simple as I possibly can,” he said. He credited his father’s advice to maintain composure through good and bad outcomes, without showing up an opponent or himself. Ashby said he preferred to stay composed and get outs for his teammates.

Asked what the championship meant after his injuries and earlier setbacks, Yelich described those experiences as preparation. He said there were lessons in the difficult periods, even when their value was hard to recognize at the time: “those low moments prepare you for this moment.”
