Anthony Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee and is expected to miss up to two months, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday. The injury news removes Minnesota’s leading scoring threat after a strong individual start to the season.

Edwards had initially been listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors. NBC Sports reported that the planned operation concerns his right knee, changing the outlook from a possible single-game absence to an extended layoff.

The 25-year-old scored 47 points in Monday’s 127–125 overtime loss at Cleveland, playing 41 minutes despite the knee issue. Minnesota fell to 3–1 after the Cavaliers recovered from a 15-point deficit, as detailed in TSP’s game report.

Edwards had opened the campaign with 45 points and nine three-pointers in a 131–106 win at Miami on October 21. He shot 16 of 29 from the field and nine of 17 from beyond the arc in that opener. He also collected 10 rebounds, while LaMelo Ball scored 21 points. TSP’s opening-night account records the performance that launched Minnesota’s three-game winning start.

Ayo Dosunmu and Terrence Shannon Jr. are potential options for additional backcourt minutes, with NBC Sports identifying both as players whose opportunities could increase. Jaden McDaniels and Jonathan Kuminga could also take on more offensive responsibility. Those possibilities do not establish a confirmed replacement starting lineup.

Minnesota hosts Golden State on Wednesday, October 28, then the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday, October 30. The Timberwolves visit San Antonio on Saturday, October 31, creating another back-to-back during the opening stretch of their schedule.

The reported two-month window is an estimate rather than a guaranteed return date. The immediate development is the planned knee procedure and an extended absence; a specific date for Edwards to resume playing has not been established in the reporting.
