Jalen Suggs Has Right-Knee Bone Bruise, Faces Two-Week Reevaluation

Orlando says Suggs’ MRI found no other structural damage. The guard will be reevaluated in two weeks after leaving Sunday’s win in New York.

Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs has a mild bone bruise in his right knee and will be reevaluated in two weeks. An MRI found no other structural damage, the team announced after Suggs left Sunday’s victory over the New York Knicks.

Suggs went down on a noncontact drive for a layup and needed help leaving the floor with 2:09 remaining. Orlando won 111–102 on the road, according to Field Level Media’s report carried by KNBR. The planned two-week mark is a medical reassessment, rather than an announced return game.

The 25-year-old has averaged 8.0 points, 5.7 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals through three games this season. He has shot 35.7 percent from the field and made one of nine attempts from beyond the arc. Those shooting numbers cover only the opening week.

Suggs appeared in 57 games last season, starting 56, and averaged 13.8 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals. His 75 appearances in 2023–24 remain his highest total. Orlando selected him fifth overall in the 2021 draft out of Gonzaga.

The injury interrupts a starting group that had carried over intact from the previous season. Suggs opened alongside Desmond Bane, Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr. TSP’s starting-lineup continuity report found Orlando and Denver were the only teams to repeat all five opening-game starters from a year earlier.

Orlando is also missing Banchero after an ankle injury in Friday’s 115–93 loss to Minnesota. Field Level Media reported that the forward would be sidelined at least a month. Losing Suggs removes another member of that opening five while the Magic are already adjusting without Banchero.

The medical announcement did not identify a replacement starter or specify how Orlando would redistribute Suggs’ minutes. His next medical review will establish whether he can progress toward a return.
