Reds Hire Joe Torres as Pitching Coach
Torres rejoins Terry Francona after five seasons as Cleveland’s assistant pitching coach.
The Cincinnati Reds hired Joe Torres as pitching coach Wednesday, bringing the former Cleveland Guardians assistant back onto Terry Francona’s staff.
Torres, 44, spent five seasons as Cleveland’s assistant pitching coach, including 2022 and 2023 under Francona. He previously coached for five seasons in the Guardians’ minor league system.
He takes over a Cincinnati staff that posted a 4.83 ERA in 2026, the third-highest mark in the majors. Reds starters had a 4.97 ERA.
Chase Burns was a bright spot, winning 15 games and striking out 185 batters. Cincinnati finished 75-87 and last in the NL Central after reaching the postseason in 2025.
