Korey Boddington Ends Jody Cundy’s 20-Year World Title Streak
The Australian won the men’s C4 kilometer time trial by 2.253 seconds at the Para Cycling Track World Championships.
Australia’s Korey Boddington ended Jody Cundy’s 20-year unbeaten run in the men’s C4 kilometer time trial at the Para Cycling Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, the International Paralympic Committee reported Tuesday.
Boddington won in 1 minute, 2.672 seconds, beating Britain’s Cundy by 2.253 seconds. Italy’s Giacomo Salvalaggio took bronze in 1:05.006.
The victory was one of three gold medals for Boddington at the championships, held October 29-November 1 in the Netherlands. He also won the men’s C4 sprint and the mixed C1-5 team sprint with Caitlin Ward and Maxwell Sudholz.
Britain led the overall medal table with 27 medals, including eight golds, while Australia finished second. The meet awarded 48 world titles over four days.
Boddington’s result displaced a rider who had controlled the C4 kilometer event for two decades; Cundy acknowledged the Australian as the deserved winner in a social-media post cited by the IPC.
