Bryce James Gets More Minutes in His Second Start for Arizona
James scored his first five college points against Cal Poly. All three of his assists through two games set up layups.

Bryce James went from seven minutes in his college debut to 17 in his second start for Arizona, scoring five points and adding two assists and two steals in Thursday’s 104–84 win over Cal Poly.
James, a 6-foot-5 sophomore guard and the son of LeBron James, redshirted last season. He missed all three of his shots in Arizona’s 84–75 loss to UCLA on Nov. 2 in Las Vegas. His one assist set up Ivan Kharchenkov for the Wildcats’ first basket, a layup 42 seconds into the game. UCLA box score
Against Cal Poly, James made a corner 3-pointer off a pass from Caleb Holt with 17:16 left in the first half. He found center Motiejus Krivas for a layup less than a minute later, then set up another Krivas layup early in the second half. A jumper with 1:21 left gave James five points on 2-for-5 shooting. He also had a rebound and one turnover. Cal Poly box score

Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd used the same starting five in both games and in all three October home exhibitions. “Bryce has had a good fall for us and continues to grow as a player,” Lloyd said after the first exhibition, against San Francisco. Lloyd said he wanted to see how starting James would shape the rotation and which players he could bring off the bench. Lloyd’s October comments
