“We didn’t give him a good enough chance to really do his job,” Aaron Boone said of Cam Schlittler after the Yankees’ 5–2 loss in ALDS Game 2.
New York committed four errors in the Monday, October 5 game at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay leads the best-of-five series 2–0.
Boone credited Schlittler with throwing well and said Tampa Bay’s contact put pressure on New York. While discussing a defensive throw, he added, “we gotta play catch, you know, it’s big leagues.”
Kevin Cash discussed the Rays’ postseason pitching preparation, including late-season relief work for Ian Seymour.
“I think the best version of our pitching staff is having all five of those guys contribute,” Cash said.
Richie Palacios’s two-out, two-run single in the fifth inning extended Tampa Bay’s lead to 5–1. Cash called it “probably the biggest hit in the game.”
