Final: Rays 5, Yankees 2

Tampa Bay beat the New York Yankees 5–2 in ALDS Game 2 at Tropicana Field on October 5, scoring four runs in the fifth inning to take a 2–0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Liam Hicks’ groundout scored Jonathan Aranda to break a 1–1 tie. Chandler Simpson’s fielder’s choice brought home Junior Caminero, and Richie Palacios capped the inning with a two-out, two-run single that scored Simpson and Jonny DeLuca.

Ben Rice supplied both Yankees runs with solo homers in the fourth and eighth. His first tied the game after Yandy Díaz scored on Caminero’s first-inning forceout, with a throwing error charged to Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Freddy Peralta allowed one run on three hits in 4⅔ innings. Cam Booser earned the win, Ian Seymour struck out four over three innings, and Bryan Baker pitched a perfect ninth for the save. Yankees starter Cam Schlittler took the loss after allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits in 4⅓ innings.

The Rays finished with eight hits and no errors. New York had four hits and committed four errors.

Scoring update: MLB’s final record credits Simpson’s fifth-inning scoring play as a fielder’s choice, replacing the infield-single description in the earlier live feed. Schlittler’s final hit total is six. Earlier timestamped updates are preserved below.
