White Sox beat Guardians 4–3 to take 2–0 ALDS lead

Braden Montgomery’s two-run double sparked Chicago’s three-run sixth as the White Sox beat Cleveland 4–3 in ALDS Game 2 and took a 2–0 series lead.

Final: White Sox 4, Guardians 3

The Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians 4–3 in ALDS Game 2 at Progressive Field on October 5, scoring three runs in the sixth inning to take a 2–0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Braden Montgomery’s two-run double scored Miguel Vargas and Randal Grichuk to put Chicago ahead 3–2. Chase Meidroth then singled home Montgomery for a 4–2 lead. Jo Adell’s eighth-inning triple scored Chase DeLauter to bring Cleveland within one, but Grant Taylor recorded the final four outs for the save.

Cleveland took a 2–0 first-inning lead when Nathaniel Lowe reached on Sean Newcomb’s throwing error, scoring Steven Kwan and José Ramírez. Munetaka Murakami’s fourth-inning single brought home Kyle Teel for Chicago’s first run.

Sean Burke earned the win with 5⅓ innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit and striking out six. Cleveland starter Gavin Williams struck out 11 in five innings; Erik Sabrowski took the loss. Chicago finished with six hits and Cleveland with four, and each team committed one error.
