The Montreal Canadiens surrendered a four goal lead in the final minutes of regulation before Dylan Samberg scored in overtime to give the Winnipeg Jets a 5–4 victory at Bell Centre on Tuesday, November 3.

Winnipeg began the latest four goal comeback win in NHL history with only 2:39 remaining, according to the Jets’ official report. The result ended the visitors’ nine game winless stretch and left Montreal explaining how a seemingly secure advantage disappeared.

Tyrel Bauer broke through with his first NHL goal. Morgan Barron followed, and Kyle Connor scored twice in the final minute to force overtime. Samberg then supplied the winner at 3:30 of the extra period.

“We were winning, but we weren’t outplaying them,” Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis said in The Canadian Press report carried by Sportsnet. His assessment distinguished Montreal’s lead from the balance of play before the late goals.

Jacob Fowler finished with 42 saves, including 19 in the second period. The rookie had repeatedly protected Montreal’s advantage as Winnipeg generated chances, leaving the Jets searching for their first goal deep into the third.

Cole Caufield had scored twice, with Owen Beck and Josh Anderson providing Montreal’s other goals. The Associated Press reported that Stuart Skinner made 18 saves for Winnipeg and Juraj Slafkovsky recorded two assists for Montreal.

Bauer also assisted on Barron’s goal after fighting Arber Xhekaj earlier, completing a Gordie Howe hat trick. His contribution turned a night dominated by Fowler’s saves into the Jets’ first victory since October 13.

Winnipeg had entered after a heavy loss to Carolina. Montreal’s defeat carried a different frustration: an effective goaltending performance and four goals had still failed to produce a win.

For Winnipeg, the recovery offered relief after a difficult stretch that had brought coach Scott Arniel’s job security into public discussion.
