David Bell Steps Down From Blue Jays’ Front Office
Bell left his assistant general manager and vice president roles Tuesday after two seasons with Toronto.

David Bell stepped down as the Toronto Blue Jays’ assistant general manager and vice president of baseball operations on Tuesday after two seasons with the organization.
Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi confirmed the departure, which The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal first reported. Bell told Rosenthal he had decided to step away and reconsider where he could make the greatest contribution, both in baseball and outside it.
Toronto hired Bell in the winter of 2024. His responsibilities included overseeing player development and the club’s physical and mental performance departments. He also contributed to major league planning, player evaluations and acquisitions.
Before joining the Blue Jays, Bell managed Cincinnati for six seasons, compiling a 409–456 record. The Reds reached the postseason in 2020 and lost their wild-card series to Atlanta.
Bell previously coached in the Reds’ minor league system and with the Cubs and Cardinals. He also worked as San Francisco’s vice president of player development in 2018. His playing career covered 12 major league seasons with six teams, including Seattle’s 116-win club in 2001.
