Nationals Release Right-Hander Zak Kent
Kent becomes a free agent after being designated for assignment following Washington’s waiver claim of Braxton Roxby.

The Washington Nationals released right-hander Zak Kent on Wednesday, MLB Trade Rumors reported, citing a team announcement. The move makes Kent a free agent after he was designated for assignment last week.
Washington had removed Kent from its roster after claiming right-hander Braxton Roxby off waivers from San Francisco. Kent, 28, made three separate stints with the Nationals during the 2026 season.
He posted a 5.68 ERA in 12⅔ innings for Washington and also pitched in 32 games for Triple-A Rochester. The Nationals had acquired him in early May after Minnesota designated him for assignment.
Kent changed organizations repeatedly before reaching Washington. After Cleveland removed him from its roster last winter, he was claimed and designated for assignment by St. Louis, Texas and St. Louis again. Minnesota then claimed him, and he appeared in two major league games for the Twins.
RotoWire also reported his release Wednesday. Kent can now seek a contract with another organization after finishing the year as bullpen depth for Washington and Rochester.
