Jack Grealish’s Everton Return Unconfirmed After Club Discipline Decision

Moyes supports the decision to omit Grealish from the cup squad but has not confirmed whether he will face Newcastle on Monday.

Jack Grealish’s availability for Everton’s next Premier League match remains unconfirmed after David Moyes declined to say whether the winger would return against Newcastle on Monday.

Everton omitted Grealish from Thursday’s Carabao Cup meeting with Newcastle. The club’s official team announcement said he was unavailable because of a breach of club discipline, without detailing the incident.

Moyes backed that decision after Everton’s 3–1 victory. “It was a club decision. I support the decision,” he said, according to AFP.

Asked separately about Grealish’s involvement in the league rematch, Moyes said: “I wouldn’t give any team news away.” That leaves his selection status open rather than confirming another absence.

The Manchester City loanee had also missed Everton’s preceding league game at Arsenal through illness. The disciplinary omission against Newcastle was therefore a separate explanation for his absence from the cup squad.

Moyes has other selection decisions before Monday. Jarrad Branthwaite missed the past two games under concussion protocols, but the manager said the defender should have recovered within the required timescale.

Vitalii Mykolenko returned from his own brief absence to play 86 minutes on Thursday. Moyes reported no immediate new injury concern after that match, while acknowledging that the players would need to be assessed again.

Tyler Dibling and Tyrique George started on Everton’s wings in the cup, with Brennan Johnson among the substitutes. The Premier League’s published lineup assessment identifies all three as options for the next meeting if Grealish remains unavailable.

Everton advanced to a December quarterfinal against Fleetwood after goals by James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry. Dan Burn scored Newcastle’s late reply.

Johnson was one of the players moved to the bench for the cup match, alongside Harrison Armstrong. Hackney and Dibling came into the starting team, changes confirmed publicly by Everton before the game on Thursday.
