Sam Darnold Ruled Out Against Cardinals; Drew Lock Expected to Start
Darnold’s quad injury will keep him out Sunday. Seattle plans to start Lock while managing his elbow, with Jalen Milroe also preparing to play.

Sam Darnold will miss Seattle’s November 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals because of a quad injury, with Drew Lock expected to start, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Wednesday.
Macdonald described Darnold’s status as week-to-week and said the team does not plan to place him on injured reserve. Darnold hurt his quad late in Monday’s game against Chicago. He also fractured a rib on Seattle’s second offensive play, although the quad injury is what will keep him out Sunday.
Lock is managing an elbow injury of his own. He has been limited in practice for the past two weeks and was Seattle’s emergency third quarterback for its last two games, when Jalen Milroe served as the backup.
The Seahawks plan to manage Lock’s throwing during the week and give Milroe practice repetitions so both are prepared to play. Macdonald also said Seattle might add another quarterback for depth, without announcing a completed addition.
Lock previously replaced Darnold after an early glute injury in the season opener, then started Seattle’s Week 2 win at Arizona. His expected return to the starting role comes against the same opponent, with his elbow still being evaluated.
