NFL TV Ratings: What the Week 8 CBS–Prime Video Gap Shows
The CBS national window drew 28.176 million viewers, compared with 16.557 million for Thursday Night Football. Different windows and distribution limit the comparison.

The CBS national NFL window drew about 11.6 million more average viewers than Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football broadcast in Week 8. The difference compares two successful packages shown on different days, with different distribution and opponents.
Nielsen’s chart for October 26 through November 1 lists 28.176 million viewers for CBS NFL National and 16.557 million for Panthers–Packers on Prime Video. The CBS figure is a national television window, led by Chiefs–Broncos, rather than an isolated measurement of only that game.
| Telecast / window | Date | Average viewers |
|---|---|---|
| CBS NFL National, led by Chiefs–Broncos | November 1 | 28.176 million |
| Panthers–Packers, Prime Video | October 29 | 16.557 million |
| Bears–Seahawks, ESPN-led combined outlets | November 2; outside displayed Nielsen chart week | 16.4 million |
Subtracting the published values gives a difference of 11.619 million viewers. The CBS average was about 70% larger than the Thursday figure. That does not establish that broadcast distribution caused a 70% increase: the schedule, matchups and circumstances changed alongside the outlets.
A national window and a standalone game
The CBS listing describes a scheduled network window. Its audience can include the games distributed within that window. Prime’s listing identifies one Thursday matchup, so calling both numbers single-game audiences would conceal a material difference.
The earlier CBS result reported by Front Office Sports was rounded to 28.18 million. Nielsen’s displayed 28.176 million is the figure used in this comparison. The precision change should not become a claim that thousands of newly identified people watched.
Monday’s number answers another question
ESPN reported 16.4 million viewers for Bears–Seahawks on November 2 across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and NFL+, including over-the-air viewing. That game had no ABC simulcast. It falls after the end of Nielsen’s displayed October 26–November 1 chart period, even though it belongs to the same NFL week.
The network called it its largest Monday Night Football audience without an ABC simulcast since November 2019. The distinction depends on the absence of an ABC simulcast; it is not a record for every Monday game.
The Manning alternate broadcast’s 864,000 viewers were part of the event’s combined coverage. Adding that audience again to 16.4 million would count a component twice. ESPN’s season figure, 18.7 million through eight weeks, is also a separate package average.
The results show the CBS national window’s larger audience and strong viewing for streaming and cable-led events. They do not supply a common platform-by-platform breakdown or a count of distinct fans across the week.
