NBA Assesses Joel Embiid Flagrant Foul After Review of Cunningham Play
The league added a flagrant foul penalty 1 for a first-quarter play in Philadelphia’s win at Detroit.

The NBA assessed Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid a postgame flagrant foul penalty 1 on Thursday after reviewing a play against Detroit’s Cade Cunningham, Yahoo Sports reported, citing the league.
The contact occurred with 5:32 left in the first quarter of Wednesday’s 112-106 Philadelphia victory. Embiid extended his right leg as Cunningham defended him and made contact with Cunningham’s groin. Officials did not call a foul on the play during the game.
A flagrant foul penalty 1 adds one point to a player’s regular-season flagrant-foul total. Reaching six points triggers a one-game suspension. It was Embiid’s first such penalty this season.
Embiid finished the game with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Philadelphia improved to 8-1.
