Lamar Jackson Injury Update: Thumb Injury Ends Return as Ravens Turn to Joe Fagnano
Jackson injured his throwing thumb on Baltimore’s first snap in Buffalo. Tyler Huntley then exited with a toe injury, bringing in rookie Joe Fagnano.

Lamar Jackson was ruled out with a right thumb injury after Baltimore’s first offensive play against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, cutting short his return from a three-game absence. The Ravens subsequently lost backup Tyler Huntley to a toe injury and turned to emergency quarterback Joe Fagnano.
Jackson hurt his throwing hand while attempting a pass to Zay Flowers. His hand struck Buffalo pass rusher Greg Rousseau’s arm during the follow-through, according to The Associated Press. Jackson headed toward the sideline and was escorted to the locker room. Baltimore initially listed him as questionable before ruling him out during the first quarter.
Huntley’s replacement appearance also ended early. He injured his toe in the second quarter, and the Ravens listed his return as questionable before he was ruled out at halftime, according to NBC Sports. Fagnano entered with Baltimore already working through its second quarterback change.
The undrafted rookie from Connecticut was making his NFL debut. Baltimore’s official account noted that Fagnano had led NFL quarterbacks with 509 passing yards during three preseason appearances, throwing three touchdown passes against one interception and finishing with a 100.4 passer rating.
Fagnano completed his first two passes to rookie tight end Josh Cuevas and rookie receiver Ja’Kobi Lane, gaining 15 and 13 yards, respectively. Baltimore reached Buffalo’s 7-yard line on that possession before a sack and Tyler Loop’s missed 34-yard field goal ended the opportunity.
Jackson had missed the previous three games because of an ankle injury suffered against Tennessee on October 4. The Ravens went 1-2 with Huntley starting those contests, making Sunday’s new injury another disruption to the offense’s attempt to restore its starting quarterback.
Baltimore next hosts Jacksonville on Thursday, November 5, at 8:15 p.m. EST. The initial injury announcements supplied no recovery timetable for Jackson before that short turnaround.
