Kaelon Black Is a Conditional Stash as 49ers Enter Their Bye

McCaffrey’s mild hamstring strain creates insurance value, but San Francisco expects him to have a chance to return after the bye.

Kaelon Black offers running-back insurance after Christian McCaffrey sustained a mild hamstring strain in San Francisco’s loss to Atlanta. The 49ers are on their Week 8 bye.

Kyle Shanahan said the team was optimistic about McCaffrey’s availability after the break, while stopping short of a guarantee, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Black ran 12 times for 63 yards and a touchdown Sunday, according to FantasyPros’ waiver review.

TSP fantasy advice: Black is a stash for managers with a spare bench slot, especially those already rostering McCaffrey. He is not an immediate Week 8 replacement because San Francisco does not play.

The claim is a bet on contingent opportunity. If McCaffrey returns without restrictions, Black’s path to a larger role becomes narrower. If recovery takes longer, the insurance becomes more useful.

Keep the roster cost in proportion to that uncertainty. A manager who urgently needs a starter during the bye should prioritize someone with a game before committing the last bench spot to Black.
