Jared McCann Is Out 10 Weeks: Should You Hold or Drop Him?
An IR slot supports keeping McCann. Without one, league depth and the cost of an inactive bench spot should drive your replacement decision.

Move Jared McCann into an eligible injured-reserve slot and replace his active production. In a 10- or 12-team redraft league that rewards goals, assists, shots and power-play scoring, his reported 10-week absence makes an ordinary bench hold costly. An available IR slot makes keeping him much easier.
The Kraken announced on October 25 that McCann is out for 10 weeks with a lower-body injury and has been placed on injured reserve. That is the team’s timetable, not a confirmed return date. The information here was checked at 12:51 a.m. EDT on October 26.
Keep him if your roster can carry the absence
McCann had three goals, five assists, 28 shots and two power-play goals through 11 games, according to his official NHL season record. Those are several sources of fantasy value to replace. They do not establish how quickly he will regain his previous workload after returning.
Use IR if your platform makes him eligible, then spend the opened active spot on a healthy forward who addresses your scoring needs. If your IR is full, compare the injured players competing for those slots before cutting anyone. A bench hold is more workable with several reserve spots than with one or two and an immediate need for games played.
Without usable IR, dropping McCann is reasonable in a shallow redraft league when the waiver pool offers a healthy player you will actually start. In a deeper league, retaining him carries more value because replacing that scoring profile is harder. Keeper and dynasty managers should weigh future seasons separately from this redraft recommendation.
Do not assume Seattle has a one-player replacement
Seattle recalled Jani Nyman from Coachella Valley on October 24. The recall alone does not establish McCann’s ice time, power-play role or production for Nyman. Treat him as a candidate to investigate in deeper leagues, rather than an automatic replacement.
Before using a waiver claim, check Seattle’s next official lineup and power-play deployment, plus the replacement’s eligibility and available games in your league’s scoring window. The McCann injury report supplies the news context; the fantasy decision is whether your roster can absorb the absence while still fielding a productive lineup.
