Howard Quarterback Ja’Shawn Scroggins Out for Season, Coach Says

Coach Ted White confirmed the quarterback’s season-ending absence Monday, HBCU Sports reported Wednesday.

Howard quarterback Ja’Shawn Scroggins will miss the rest of the season with an undisclosed injury, coach Ted White confirmed Monday, according to a report published Wednesday by HBCU Sports.

Scroggins finished with 1,092 passing yards, six touchdown passes and five interceptions. He completed 98 of 196 attempts and added 228 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground, the report said.

His absence removes a quarterback who contributed nine combined passing and rushing touchdowns. Howard has averaged 18.6 points and 250.7 yards per game, both at the bottom of the MEAC, according to HBCU Sports.

White said the offense’s problems in its previous game included repeated third-and-long situations that limited opportunities to establish the run. The coach described renewed work on preparation and accountability as the Bison tried to improve their offensive consistency.

Howard faces South Carolina State on Thursday. White’s reported announcement established that Scroggins would not return this season but did not identify the injury or provide a timetable for his longer-term recovery.
