The Calgary Flames take a four-game winning streak into Wednesday’s Battle of Alberta at Edmonton, with a chance to reach .500 after losing their first five games of the season. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time, with the game available on Prime Video.

Calgary’s official game preview lists the Flames at 5–6–0 after a perfect four-game homestand. Monday’s 5–2 victory over Toronto completed that run and sent Calgary into a stretch in which four of its next five games are away from the Saddledome.

Joel Farabee leads the Flames with 11 points through 11 games, including eight points over his past five appearances. Matvei Gridin also enters the rivalry matchup with momentum after scoring twice against the Maple Leafs. Calgary’s recent results have therefore combined contributions from established forwards and younger players rather than depending on one scoring line alone.

Special teams offer another reason for the improved outlook. The Flames have scored a power-play goal in five consecutive games and have killed 11 straight opposition advantages. Those streaks will face a different test against an Edmonton offense led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

The Oilers are trying to end a two-game home skid after Monday’s 4–3 shootout loss to Detroit. The NHL’s recap of that game documented Detroit’s late rally and goaltender Michal Postava’s first NHL victory, leaving Edmonton with one point rather than two.

McDavid has recorded a point in each of his first 12 games this season, while Draisaitl brings a seven-game point streak. Those runs give Calgary’s improved penalty killing and defensive matchups a demanding assignment even as the Flames arrive with greater confidence.

Wednesday also carries extra weight in the season series because the clubs will not meet again until March 3. A rivalry usually associated with frequent comparisons across Alberta will therefore have a long pause after this first meeting.

For Calgary, the immediate objective is to carry its home form onto the road. For Edmonton, it is to convert another home opportunity into a full two-point result.
