Daniil Medvedev secured his return to the ATP Finals on Friday by beating Adrian Mannarino in Vienna’s quarterfinals. The 30-year-old qualified for the season-ending tournament for the seventh time, restoring his place after missing the event in 2025.

His Vienna campaign subsequently ended Saturday with a 6–4, 7–6(2) semifinal loss to Carlos Alcaraz. That defeat did not reverse the qualification already secured a day earlier; Medvedev’s Turin place had been confirmed before the semifinal.

Against Alcaraz, Medvedev converted two of four break points but saved only one of four on his own serve. He hit six aces and two double faults, with Alcaraz taking the second-set tiebreak to complete the semifinal on Centre Court.

Medvedev beat Mannarino 6–2, 6–3 in his 100th ATP quarterfinal. He broke in the French qualifier’s opening service game, added another break for 5–2 and controlled the opening set before finishing the match in two sets.

The former world No. 1 qualified for six consecutive editions from 2019 through 2024. He won the championship in 2020 and returned to the final in 2021, losing to Alexander Zverev. His record at the event stands at 12–11.

The ATP’s qualification announcement credited him with four titles this season: Brisbane, Dubai, Hangzhou and Almaty. He also passed 50 wins for the first time since 2023 and reached the Indian Wells final after beating Alcaraz in the semifinals.

Vienna had required an escape earlier in the week. Medvedev saved a match point against Cameron Norrie in the round of 16 before winning 4–6, 6–3, 7–6(1), then produced the more straightforward victory over Mannarino.

The ATP Finals run November 15–22 at Inalpi Arena in Turin. Medvedev joins already-qualified Zverev, Alcaraz and Ben Shelton. Jannik Sinner also qualified but will not compete because of injury, according to the event’s announcement.
