Carlos Alcaraz Beats Daniil Medvedev to Reach First Vienna Final
Alcaraz won 6–4, 7–6(2), converting three of four break points to secure a place in the Erste Bank Open final.

Carlos Alcaraz reached the Vienna final Saturday with a 6–4, 7–6(2) victory over Daniil Medvedev. The second seed completed the semifinal in one hour, 36 minutes and 24 seconds, according to the tournament’s official results.
Alcaraz converted three of four break points and saved two of the four he faced. Medvedev broke twice, but the Spaniard’s extra return-game breakthrough and a decisive second-set tiebreak delivered the straight-sets result.
First-serve points were another difference. Alcaraz won 35 of 45 behind his first delivery, compared with Medvedev’s 31 of 47. Both players won eight of 19 second-serve points, underlining the importance of that first-serve advantage.
The victory sent Alcaraz into his first final at the Erste Bank Open and the 37th ATP final of his career, Tennis Now reported. It was his third tour-level championship match indoors.
He also extended his winning streak at ATP 500 events to 25 matches and improved to 15–0 at that level in 2026. Medvedev entered their meeting with seven consecutive wins and an 18–2 run behind him.
Alcaraz had advanced past Tommy Paul 6–4, 7–6(2) in Friday’s quarterfinal. That win secured his 50th ATP semifinal appearance, while Saturday supplied another opportunity to pursue a Vienna title rather than stopping at the last four.
His previous Vienna victories this week also ended in second-set tiebreaks, keeping his run entirely in straight sets.
“It’s a great feeling,” Alcaraz said in the on-court interview quoted by Tennis Now. He described beating a confident Medvedev indoors as special and said his preparation had focused on putting himself in position to compete for another title.
The match paired the third-ranked Alcaraz with fifth-ranked Medvedev. Alcaraz served seven aces to Medvedev’s six, and each player committed two double faults. Medvedev had won their previous meeting at Indian Wells in March.
