Charbonnet’s Expected Return Creates Week 8 Questions in Seattle’s Backfield

Charbonnet is expected to return against Chicago, creating uncertainty around Emanuel Wilson’s workload and Seattle’s short-yardage opportunities.

Zach Charbonnet is expected to make his 2026 season debut in Week 8 against Chicago, creating a new decision for fantasy managers who have relied on Emanuel Wilson in Seattle’s backfield. The anticipated return adds competition, but it does not establish a confirmed split of carries before the game.

Sports Illustrated’s fantasy report cited the expected return and described Charbonnet as approaching his first action since the knee injury that interrupted Seattle’s postseason run. He has not played during the opening seven weeks of this season.

Wilson has received an extended opportunity in his absence. He ran for 100 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ 20–3 victory over Kansas City, making the workload question relevant to managers evaluating a player coming off a productive outing.

Charbonnet’s past short-yardage usage is the most immediate concern for Wilson’s fantasy value. If Seattle assigns some close-range opportunities to the returning back, Wilson could retain useful touches while losing chances that produce a disproportionate share of fantasy points.

That is a possibility to plan for, rather than a guarantee of the coaching staff’s decision. Charbonnet’s conditioning, game status and performance after the return will influence how much work he receives.

Rookie Jadarian Price is another part of the picture. The report says he is set to return to practice after missing four games with a chest injury, although a practice return is separate from activation and a meaningful game-day role.

TSP’s fantasy approach is to hold Wilson where roster space permits, treat Charbonnet as a bench addition or hold, and avoid assuming either has a secure feature-back workload immediately. Managers with reliable alternatives can wait for evidence from the first game before making a larger lineup commitment.

A separate Week 8 waiver comparison also places Charbonnet among the relevant available running backs, but league size and roster availability will determine whether he is actually on a particular waiver wire.

The final inactive list remains the first check. After that, snaps, carries and goal-line involvement will be more useful than treating an expected return as an automatic restoration of last season’s role.
