Cameron Boozer scored 27 points as the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Sacramento Kings 136–105 on Saturday, October 31, matching the best start in franchise history. Memphis reached 6–0, equaling its opening run in the 2014–15 season.
The Grizzlies remained the NBA’s only unbeaten team. Isaiah Stewart contributed 24 points, while GG Jackson scored 21 and made all five of his three point attempts. Memphis led 66–55 at halftime before outscoring Sacramento 42–25 in the third quarter.
Boozer added nine rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes. His shooting covered several areas: eight baskets in 14 attempts, three makes from seven tries beyond the arc and a perfect eight free throws from eight attempts. He also blocked a shot.
The rookie followed his October 29 performance at Portland, where he recorded 18 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. Across those two victories, Boozer totaled 45 points, 21 rebounds and 15 assists, combining scoring with work on the boards and distribution.
His first six NBA games produced 104 points and 63 rebounds, averages of 17.3 and 10.5 per game. Before Saturday, his highest scoring total was 25 against Golden State on October 23, when he also grabbed 13 rebounds and contributed six assists. He collected at least seven rebounds in each of those six games, including double digit totals in his first three appearances for Memphis.
Cam Spencer supplied Memphis with 10 points and 13 assists against Sacramento. He started with Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. unavailable because of back issues. Sacramento fell to 0–6 despite 38 points from fellow rookie Darius Acuff Jr.
Memphis stretched its advantage to 34 points during the second half. The Grizzlies next host New Orleans on Monday, November 2, with a chance to establish a new franchise record for consecutive victories to begin a season.
