Brian Thomas Jr. Addresses Trade Rumors As Jaguars Role Shrinks

Thomas says his confidence remains intact after sitting out the second half against Houston. Liam Coen expects him to contribute against Indianapolis.

Brian Thomas Jr. faces renewed trade speculation with his Jacksonville playing time shrinking and the NFL’s November 10 deadline approaching after a difficult early-season stretch.

Thomas discussed his response in comments published by the team Wednesday. He wanted to move past the previous game, return with a different mindset and show Jacksonville his ability.

“I feel I still know what I can do,” Thomas said. He added that adversity required him to keep working and arrive with the right attitude. His remarks addressed his performance and response to reduced playing time, rather than announcing a move.

Thomas did not take a second-half snap in Jacksonville’s 34–31 loss to Houston before the bye. The team’s account noted an early drop and another missed receiving opportunity before halftime. He has nine catches for 105 yards and one touchdown this season.

Coach Liam Coen continued to express confidence in the receiver, saying he expected Thomas to contribute against the Colts. Coen also explained that coaches must keep creating opportunities while recognizing when another player has the hot hand. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence likewise expressed confidence in Thomas ahead of Sunday’s game.

His rookie season in 2024 produced 87 receptions, 1,282 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns, all Jaguars rookie records. He started 16 of his 17 appearances, earned a Pro Bowl selection and finished as an Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist. He led NFL rookies in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Those achievements provide the established production behind the current attention. He also ranked third overall in NFL receiving yards during that first professional season.

Jacksonville returns from its bye at 4–2, leading the AFC South. Indianapolis enters at 2–5. For Thomas, Sunday offers another opportunity to regain involvement in an offense whose coach has publicly left the door open for him.
