Albert Gonzalez Knocks Out Edward Vazquez in Second Round
Gonzalez retained his NABF featherweight title with a body-shot knockout at 1:04 of the second round in San Antonio.

Albert Gonzalez knocked out Edward Vazquez at 1:04 of the second round Saturday to retain his NABF featherweight title at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
A body shot put Vazquez down, and he could not beat referee Laurence Cole’s count. The bout had been scheduled for 10 rounds but ended after four minutes, four seconds of boxing.
Gonzalez remained unbeaten at 19–0, with 12 knockouts. Vazquez’s record fell to 20–4 with six stoppage victories. The contest was the chief support to Emanuel Navarrete’s fight with O’Shaquie Foster.
The fighters had cleared the scale Friday, with Gonzalez weighing 124.9 pounds and Vazquez 125.8. Gonzalez entered the contest as the defending North American Boxing Federation champion at featherweight.
Vazquez had previously challenged for world titles twice, making him an experienced opponent for the unbeaten Gonzalez. The second-round finish instead gave Gonzalez another stoppage win while preserving his regional championship.
“The body’s on my mind every single fight,” Gonzalez said afterward, according to NY Fights. He credited trainer Robert Garcia and the gym’s team for his recent knockout streak.
