Garrett Wilson’s Concussion Protocol: Your Week 9 Fantasy Backup Plan
Hold Wilson while his availability develops, but prepare a receiver replacement before Sunday. Wednesday’s missed practice does not settle his game status.

Hold Garrett Wilson and prepare another receiver for Week 9. The Jets receiver is in concussion protocol and missed Wednesday’s practice. His Sunday availability at Kansas City remains unsettled, so managers should have a usable replacement without treating him as already ruled out.
This guide assumes a 12-team PPR league with a bench and daily roster moves. The same preparation applies in half-PPR, although your available replacements may rank differently. A league that locks its whole lineup before Sunday requires an earlier decision than one that lets managers change each player before kickoff.
What Is Confirmed
The Jets’ November 4 report says Wilson entered the protocol Monday after a hit late in Sunday’s loss to Las Vegas. Aaron Glenn described him as day to day. Wednesday’s absence supplies a practice update, not a final game designation, and it cannot tell managers when clearance will occur.
Wilson had six catches for 83 yards on 12 targets against the Raiders. Those opportunities help explain why dropping him for a temporary replacement would be a substantial decision. They also belong to the completed Week 8 game; another receiver is not automatically entitled to inherit that target count if Wilson misses Sunday.
Build a Replacement Plan Before You Need It
First inspect your own bench for a receiver who is eligible, has a game this week and can occupy Wilson’s actual lineup position. If you need a waiver claim, make it while you still have a roster spot and a choice of alternatives. Check your provider’s present injury-reserve eligibility rather than assuming the protocol label creates an extra opening.
Until Wilson’s status is established, put the replacement in the lineup if your platform permits you to switch back later. That reduces the chance of leaving an unavailable player active because you cannot check close to kickoff. Preserve flexibility in the relevant receiver or flex slot under your league’s position and lock rules.
Read the next issued practice report, the final game designation and the game-day inactive announcement. If Wilson is cleared, reassess the decision using the actual news and your alternatives. If he is out, use the replacement you prepared. A missed Wednesday practice should prompt preparation, while the final decision remains tied to later availability information.
