Miro Heiskanen is awaiting further evaluation after an upper-body injury forced him out of the Dallas Stars’ 6-5 road win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan said another assessment was planned Wednesday, according to the team’s postgame report. He did not give a return date.

Heiskanen left after his first shift of the second period. Washington forward Justin Sourdif had hit him into the boards as the players pursued the puck, and Dallas subsequently ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

The defenseman finished with 9:41 of ice time and one blocked shot, Sportsnet reported. He entered Tuesday with three goals and eight assists in 14 appearances, leading Dallas defensemen in points and tying for third among all Stars skaters.

The Stars next visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. Their Wednesday assessment will help clarify Heiskanen’s availability after an early exit that limited him to less than 10 minutes against Washington.
