Tyrese Maxey scored 38 points as the Philadelphia 76ers rallied past the Charlotte Hornets 109–104 on Saturday, October 31, winning without LeBron James and Joel Embiid on the second night of a back to back.

Philadelphia improved to 6–1 after recovering from a deficit. Maxey made 13 of 23 shots and four three pointers, adding four rebounds and four assists. His free throws with 1:22 remaining put the Sixers ahead for good.

Anfernee Simons contributed 19 points off the bench, making five three pointers. Jaylen Brown returned after missing Friday’s victory over New York with left patellar tendinopathy and finished with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists.

James and Embiid were held out for injury management. Philadelphia beat the Knicks 98–93 in its NBA Cup opener the previous night, while Charlotte was also playing consecutive nights.

Grayson Allen’s shooting gave the Hornets an opportunity to finish the weekend with a win. He scored 27 points, including seven three pointers. Brandon Miller added 24 points and five assists, while Naz Reid supplied 14 points.

Charlotte led 101–94 after Allen’s three pointer with 3:41 left. Simons and Maxey then combined for the next eight points, reversing the advantage before VJ Edgecombe extended Philadelphia’s lead with a three from deep.

The Hornets missed a chance to respond when Sion James failed to finish an uncontested layup in the final half minute. Maxey added two free throws, and Brown later closed the scoring from the line after Miller’s late three kept Charlotte within reach.

Philadelphia’s 40 percent three point shooting helped offset eight missed free throws. Charlotte dropped to 3–4 and remained without Coby White and Kon Knueppel.

Both teams return Monday, November 2. The Sixers host Chicago, while the Hornets welcome Detroit as they seek to stop their three game losing streak.
