Clint Hurdle is leaving the Colorado Rockies organization effective Saturday, October 31, after announcing the decision Friday. The former manager and longtime club adviser said he is not retiring, describing the departure as a chance to reconsider his personal and professional path after more than 20 years with Colorado.

Hurdle thanked the Rockies’ players, coaches, staff and fans in his public statement, as well as owner Dick Monfort for the opportunities to manage and later mentor within the organization. The Rockies publicly thanked him for his contribution, while a club spokesperson told Purple Row the sides had mutually parted ways.

The 69-year-old returned to Colorado in 2022 as a special assistant to the general manager. His work included mentoring young players and coaches, and he was involved in the club’s instructional program in Arizona this fall. He also returned to the major league coaching staff during the 2025 season.

Hurdle first joined the Rockies as a minor league hitting instructor in 1994 and became the big-league hitting coach in 1997. He replaced Buddy Bell as manager in 2002 and guided the club to the 2007 National League pennant. His Colorado managerial tenure produced 534 victories across 1,159 games.

That 2007 team won 13 of its final 14 regular-season games to force a tiebreaker, then reached the franchise’s first World Series. Hurdle remained manager until May 2009. He subsequently worked as the Texas Rangers’ hitting coach in 2010 before managing the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2011 through 2019.

Hurdle also earned National League Manager of the Year honors with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013. Beyond coaching, he has shared reflections in his book, Hurdle-isms: Wit and Wisdom from a Lifetime in Baseball, and in a weekly email. He has a busy public-speaking schedule and a second book in the works, MLB.com reported.
