Sports technology supplier Genius Sports will supply semi-automated offside technology for Argentina’s Liga Profesional de Fútbol under an expanded agreement with the Argentine Football Association announced Friday, October 30.

The company said the system would first be used for the Clausura final on December 12. A full rollout across the top division is planned before the 2027 Torneo Clausura, which begins in July.

The semi-automated technology combines camera-based player tracking and artificial intelligence to help video assistant referees assess offside incidents. Genius Sports describes GeniusIQ as tracking player positions, identifying when a pass is played and generating detailed three-dimensional visualizations of offside decisions.

The company plans to deliver those visuals to broadcasters and stadium screens after the officiating process. Its announcement also identified potential uses for the tracking infrastructure, including coaching information and augmented broadcasts, without announcing separate products or financial terms.

The agreement develops a relationship that already included data and international video distribution. In September 2025, the AFA and Genius Sports announced an extension of their strategic alliance through 2030, covering Argentine football content for international sportsbooks and media.

That earlier agreement extended exclusive rights to capture, process and distribute video from competitions including the Liga Profesional and Copa Argentina, as well as men’s and women’s national-team fixtures. Genius Sports also described plans to develop new digital content through GeniusIQ.

The 2025 announcement identified international streaming rights for Argentina’s first division through 2030. It also described BetVision, a sportsbook product combining live streams with betting interfaces, statistics and broadcast additions.

The September 2025 presentation took place in Miami. It linked the commercial rights agreement with planned technological projects for Argentine football, including augmented-reality content and real-time statistics. Those earlier proposals provide background to Friday’s specific offside timetable; they were presented as plans for the broader commercial partnership.
