Josh Kushner and Bob Iger have been marketing minority stakes in the Los Angeles Lakers starting at $250 million as they assemble their ownership group, Front Office Sports reported Friday, October 30.

FOS cited four people familiar with fundraising for the $250 million to $300 million stake range. Two sources expected larger contributions from some investors; the buyers’ representative declined to comment.

One source expected closing within months, with Kushner owning a majority and Iger overseeing the team’s daily operations.

Kushner and Iger had previously worked toward an NBA expansion franchise in Las Vegas, AP reported in August. Walter initially bought a 27 percent Lakers stake in 2021 before purchasing control from the Buss family, whose ownership dated to 1979. NBA owners approved Walter’s control purchase in October 2025; the August 2026 agreement would require another league approval process. The process can take several weeks.

The NBA recently changed its private-equity rules to allow a firm and its executives to invest in the same franchise, FOS reported. The change would permit Kushner’s Thrive Eternal to participate alongside him in the Lakers transaction.

Kushner and Iger agreed in August to acquire the Lakers from Mark Walter at a $12.5 billion valuation, according to Associated Press reporting. The agreement followed Walter’s purchase of control at a $10 billion valuation the previous year. The two reported valuations differ by $2.5 billion.

AP described Kushner as a venture capitalist who already held a minority interest in the Miami Heat. He had previously owned a Memphis Grizzlies stake, and his capital holding company is Thrive Eternal.

Iger, the former Disney chief executive, also has experience in women’s soccer ownership. He and his wife, Willow Bay, became controlling owners of Angel City FC in 2024 in a deal that valued the NWSL club at $250 million.
