Green Bay’s Week 7 matchup with Detroit averaged 24.67 million viewers on FOX in Sunday’s late-afternoon window, according to Pro Football Talk’s audience report.

The figure was substantial but did not lead every NFL telecast that day. Chiefs–Seahawks averaged a reported 26.3 million viewers on Sunday night, a larger audience than the Packers–Lions number.

Single-game and national-window averages

Pro Football Talk also reported that FOX’s alternating 4:25 p.m. ET national window averaged 24.749 million viewers through the first seven weeks. That season-to-date window average is a separate measure from this individual game.

The distinction prevents two common errors: treating the Packers–Lions result as an entire weekly NFL audience, or describing it as the largest telecast solely because it dominated the late-afternoon conversation.

The reported difference between the Sunday night and late-afternoon audiences was 1.63 million viewers. That is a comparison of the published averages, not a count of people who chose one game instead of the other.

Viewers can watch more than one telecast over a Sunday. Adding the two averages would therefore not produce the number of unique people who watched football that day.

How to interpret the audience comparison

Ratings comparisons also require consistent measurement definitions. Nielsen’s current Big Data + Panel framework differs from older reporting systems, which matters when placing a new result beside a historical benchmark.

A single large audience can reflect the appeal of the matchup and its broadcast window, but the figure alone cannot establish how much each factor contributed. It also does not measure either team’s total fan base.

The late-afternoon package remains an important national platform because it concentrates attention on a limited number of games. The published average describes the viewers represented during that telecast’s measured duration.

For this Week 7 result, the headline is specific: Packers–Lions drew a reported 24.67 million on FOX. The larger Sunday night figure supplies context.
