Dortmund Extends Sportradar Deal to Vet New Sponsors
Sportradar will continue background checks on potential Borussia Dortmund commercial partners, examining ownership and compliance risks before deals.

Borussia Dortmund has extended its integrity partnership with Sportradar, retaining the company to investigate prospective sponsors and commercial partners before the club enters new relationships.
The agreement was announced October 28 and reported by outlets Thursday. Sportradar said the work continues an existing arrangement focused on due diligence around the organizations seeking commercial ties with Dortmund.
What the sponsor checks examine
The background checks cover corporate structures and ownership, alongside licensing and regulatory compliance. They also examine key personnel and business operations for matters that could create reputational risks.
Sportradar’s announcement includes legal or criminal proceedings among the areas that reports may examine. That describes the scope of the service, rather than an allegation against any particular Dortmund partner.
The club’s stated aim is to find organizations that fit its values and support sustainable commercial relationships. The announcement does not name a sponsor that has failed a review or identify a newly rejected deal.
This is a partner-vetting assignment, distinct from selling sponsorship rights. Dortmund still needs to negotiate the commercial terms of any agreement; the background work supplies information to help assess the organization involved.
How vetting differs from other integrity work
The distinction separates this contract from match-fixing detection. Sportradar operates across several integrity services, but the confirmed purpose here is examining potential commercial partners.
Football Business News places the extension alongside Dortmund’s wider commercial arrangements, including its continuing relationship with marketing agency Sportfive. Those arrangements have different responsibilities and should not be presented as interchangeable contracts.
The parties did not disclose a fee or a new expiry date in the announcement. The confirmed development is the continuation of the screening service, without a public valuation attached.
The extension keeps ownership checks within Dortmund’s assessment of prospective sponsors, alongside their offered prices. Commercial decisions remain with the club. Follow TSP’s Business of Sports coverage for further sponsorship and integrity developments.
