Ohio State Lists Julian Sayin Out for USC Game

Sayin’s absence is official on the initial availability report, while Ohio State continues to assess its quarterback options and other injured starters.

Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin is officially out for Saturday’s game at USC, according to the Big Ten’s initial availability report released Wednesday night.

Sayin was injured during the October 17 game at Indiana and left with his throwing arm in a sling. Ohio State had a bye last weekend, making the USC report its first game-week availability update since the injury.

Eleven Warriors’ report lists Sayin among seven unavailable Buckeyes. His designation confirms the immediate absence without establishing a precise date for a return. Running back Ja’Kobi Jackson is also listed as unavailable Saturday.

Luke Fahey replaced Sayin against Indiana. Tavien St. Clair is another quarterback option, and coach Ryan Day had not formally named the USC starter in the reporting accompanying Wednesday’s availability release.

The distinction matters because appearing in relief and being selected to start the next game are separate decisions. Day has also left open the possibility that both available quarterbacks could play.

Ohio State’s passing game has another uncertainty: receiver Brandon Inniss is listed as questionable. Defensive back Jay Timmons carries the same designation after leaving the Indiana game early in the fourth quarter.

Offensive lineman Austin Siereveld and defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr. are absent from the injury list, indicating availability. Siereveld has been returning from illness, and Day said his ability to handle a full game still needed assessment.

Those returns do not remove the quarterback change, but they affect the group available around the replacement. A player’s availability also should not be treated as a guarantee of his normal snap count.

Ohio State visits USC on Saturday, October 31. Further team updates can clarify the remaining questionable players and the quarterback plan. For now, the confirmed development is Sayin’s exclusion, with the replacement assignment still requiring a separate announcement from the Buckeyes.
