Avery Johnson Out, Jacob Knuth Doubtful for Colorado
The Wildcats’ quarterback uncertainty deepens ahead of Saturday’s trip to Boulder, with Blake Barnett and Dillon Duff among the remaining options.

Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson has been ruled out of Saturday’s game at Colorado, while Jacob Knuth is listed as doubtful, leaving the Wildcats with another unresolved decision at the position.
Wednesday’s availability report confirms Johnson’s second consecutive absence. Knuth started last weekend’s 28–17 loss at Arizona State but injured his ankle during that game.
Kansas State’s remaining quarterback options
The Topeka Capital-Journal report identifies Blake Barnett and Dillon Duff as the other options. Neither the injury designations nor the order of previous appearances establishes a confirmed starter for Saturday.
Johnson was hurt during the October 17 victory over Kansas after a long first-quarter run. He remained in that game but subsequently missed the Arizona State trip, the first missed start of his three seasons as Kansas State’s starter.
Coach Collin Klein has declined to give detailed information about Johnson’s condition, citing the quarterback’s privacy. His earlier description of Johnson as day-to-day has now been followed by the formal out designation for Colorado.
Knuth completed 26 of 41 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown against Arizona State. He also ran for a touchdown while playing through the ankle problem, according to the Capital-Journal account. Knuth rolled it twice against Arizona State.
Availability updates before kickoff
Barnett and Duff have both dealt with availability concerns this season. Barnett was a game-time decision last week, while Duff only recently came off the team’s weekly injury reports.
That background makes the remaining reports relevant even after Johnson’s absence has been established. Kansas State is scheduled to issue further updates Thursday and Friday, followed by another report 90 minutes before kickoff.
The game at Folsom Field begins Saturday, October 31, at 2 p.m. Eastern Time on TNT. Johnson is out and Knuth remains doubtful; the starting assignment is unresolved. Follow TSP’s college football coverage for the remaining availability reports before Saturday’s kickoff.
