Ajay Mitchell’s Ankle Injury Complicates Fantasy Plans Against Dallas
Mitchell’s ankle designation adds uncertainty before Dallas, even as Oklahoma City’s other backcourt injuries create a larger opportunity when he is available.

Ajay Mitchell’s questionable designation for Wednesday’s game against Dallas creates a timing problem for fantasy managers considering Oklahoma City’s changing backcourt. The opportunity around him has grown, but an ankle sprain means his own availability must be checked before relying on it.
FanDuel’s player-status report lists Mitchell as questionable for the October 28 matchup. That designation is neither a confirmed absence nor a promise that he will play without restriction.
Mitchell came off a 30-point performance in Monday’s 125–114 win over Phoenix. The RotoWire updates carried by CBS Sports say he added five assists and two rebounds in 25 minutes while making 10 of 16 field-goal attempts.
The same updates identify an ankle sprain after that game. Alex Caruso is also unavailable, while Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace face extended absences following injuries requiring surgery. Those conditions explain why Mitchell’s role is attractive when healthy and why another absence could redistribute opportunities again.
TSP’s fantasy recommendation is to separate the roster decision from the immediate lineup decision. A manager can value Mitchell’s longer opportunity while still needing a healthy alternative for one particular night.
In daily leagues, preserve a backup route until the game-status update arrives. Check whether the league allows changes after an individual player’s tipoff, because a later game can leave fewer replacement options once earlier contests have started.
The CBS-carried update identifies Jared McCain as a possible beneficiary if Mitchell sits, with Bennett Stirtz relevant in deeper formats. Those are conditional streaming considerations, not guaranteed replacements with a fixed number of minutes.
The 30-point game should also be interpreted as one completed performance. It supports the case that Mitchell can produce in an expanded role, but repeating that total is not a reasonable requirement for an addition to have value.
The most useful next information is whether he is active, whether any restriction is announced and how Oklahoma City distributes its available guard minutes. Until those details are clear, Mitchell belongs in the conversation as a valuable opportunity with an immediate availability question attached.
