Rachaad White’s Extended Washington Role Makes Him a Week 8 Waiver Target
White has an extended opportunity while Jacory Croskey-Merritt remains on injured reserve, with receiving work supporting his Week 8 fantasy appeal.

Rachaad White remains a priority Week 8 waiver consideration where available because Washington is expected to rely on him while Jacory Croskey-Merritt is on injured reserve. The Commanders return from their bye to face Philadelphia, giving fantasy managers another opportunity to assess White’s expanded role.
CBS Sports analyst Jamey Eisenberg identified White as a leading addition and said he should have at least three more games as Washington’s lead running back while Croskey-Merritt deals with a groin injury.
That opportunity does not make the backfield exclusive. White is expected to share touches with Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols, so managers should distinguish the leading role from a guarantee of every carry, target or goal-line chance.
In Washington’s first game without Croskey-Merritt, White had seven carries for 27 yards and four receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown on five targets against San Francisco. The receiving contribution supplied a substantial part of his fantasy output, especially in leagues awarding points for catches.
Sportsnaut’s Week 8 waiver summary also highlighted the extended runway and the Philadelphia matchup. That makes White more than a one-day emergency option, while leaving the exact weekly scoring outcome uncertain.
TSP’s recommendation is to check availability before assuming the opportunity has already disappeared. Roster percentages vary by platform, league size and when a waiver claim is processed, so a player widely held on one service may still be available in another league.
For a manager missing a running back because of injury or a bye, White merits consideration as a potential flex or lineup replacement. A team with stronger established starters can instead use him as depth without needing to force him into the lineup immediately.
The relevant evidence over the next game is his share of snaps, passing-game involvement and opportunities near the goal line. Those measures will show whether the anticipated lead role translates into the type of workload a fantasy lineup needs.
The short-term opening is clear enough to act on where available. The longer-term value still depends on Washington’s distribution of touches and the eventual return of Croskey-Merritt, rather than treating the current injury absence as a permanent depth-chart change.
