Lazio Beat Sassuolo 6–2 to Move Three Points Clear in Serie A
Lazio scored six against ten-man Sassuolo and reached 25 points, with Inter able to respond at Venezia on Wednesday.

Lazio overwhelmed Sassuolo 6–2 on Tuesday to move three points clear at the top of Serie A, turning an extraordinary first half into an emphatic away victory. Sassuolo played most of the match with ten men after Kristian Thorstvedt was sent off.
Reuters reported that unbeaten Lazio reached 25 points with their eighth victory in nine league matches. Second-place Inter visit bottom club Venezia on Wednesday, making Lazio’s advantage provisional until their nearest challenger completes its fixture.
Kenneth Taylor opened the scoring in the second minute before Thorstvedt equalized. Gustav Isaksen restored Lazio’s lead and Romano Floriani Mussolini added his first Serie A goal, putting the visitors 3–1 ahead inside the opening 16 minutes, according to Football Italia’s match report.
The early scoring did not settle the contest. Thorstvedt was dismissed just after the half-hour for a foul on Mattia Zaccagni, but Sebastiano Esposito pulled Sassuolo back to 3–2. Lazio still needed another response before halftime to restore their two-goal cushion.
Zaccagni supplied it with a header from Isaksen’s cross in first-half stoppage time. The goal made it 4–2 at the interval, completing a six-goal opening period and leaving the hosts facing a difficult recovery with a player fewer.
Tijjani Noslin subsequently added Lazio’s fifth as the visitors extended their lead after the break. Sassuolo goalkeeper Stefano Turati saved two penalties during the match, including one taken by Zaccagni, preventing an even heavier defeat despite the six goals conceded.
The result strengthens Lazio’s position before the rest of the round is complete. Their immediate benchmark remains Inter’s Wednesday result: a win would erase the temporary three-point gap, while dropped points would leave Lazio with an outright advantage. Their record now stands at eight wins and one draw, with no defeats through nine matches in the opening run of league fixtures.
