Doubles Players Urge ATP to Reconsider Proposed Prize-Money Shift
An open letter challenges proposed changes for 2028; the measures are not a completed policy.

Leading doubles players have asked the ATP to reconsider proposed changes that would reduce their share of prize money and shrink some draws, Reuters reported Tuesday.
The letter was backed by 137 active players, 33 former players and 20 national federations. It challenges a proposed $20 million shift toward singles and changes intended for 2028.
The debate sits within a wider compensation plan. Reuters’ earlier account of the proposals described a larger bonus pool and additional support for pensions and players outside the top tier.
The players’ objection concerns how that package would distribute opportunity and income between singles and doubles. A larger overall compensation target does not resolve that allocation question.
The proposals should not be presented as rules already in force. The letter is an attempt to influence the decision before implementation. The next material development will be the ATP’s response and a confirmed final policy, including which draw sizes and prize-money arrangements are actually adopted.
