Woodruff Still Unused Through Two World Series Games
Milwaukee has taken a 2–0 lead without using the right-hander, whose last regular-season outing came July 4.
Brandon Woodruff has sought bullpen advice from Aaron Ashby while awaiting his World Series debut, MLB.com reported Sunday.
Woodruff was not among Milwaukee’s pitchers in Game 1 or Game 2, according to the official boxscores. His regular-season pitching log ends with a July 4 start in which he worked 3⅔ innings.
The right-hander remains on the Brewers’ 26-man active roster, which lists 13 pitchers. Milwaukee added him to its World Series roster Friday in place of Chad Patrick after he returned to facing hitters.
Manager Pat Murphy said Friday that Woodruff could be used as an opener or in relief. Milwaukee used five relievers to deliver six scoreless innings in Saturday’s 5–4 Game 2 victory without calling on him.
The Brewers lead the best-of-seven series 2–0 after winning both opening games at American Family Field. They resume play Monday at Tropicana Field, with Robert Gasser scheduled to face Freddy Peralta at 8 p.m. EDT.
