MINNEAPOLIS — The Vikings received encouraging results from imaging on Justin Jefferson’s left ankle Monday, leaving open the possibility that the receiver could play Sunday against Miami.
Jefferson sprained the ankle during Minnesota’s 23–16 win over Tampa Bay. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the imaging did not raise a long-term concern, according to RotoWire’s account of the update. That assessment offers optimism without establishing that Jefferson has been cleared for the next game.
Coach Kevin O’Connell said the team had considered putting him back into Sunday’s contest more than once. Jefferson ultimately remained out, and his progress during the coming week will determine whether the Dolphins game is a realistic return point.
The injury happened late in the first quarter. Jefferson walked off the field, was evaluated in the medical tent and spent time on the sideline with his helmet on before heading to the locker room during the second quarter.
Minnesota ruled him out after halftime. He finished with two catches for 32 yards, leaving the offense to complete most of the game without its leading receiver.
The Vikings found scoring elsewhere. Jordan Addison caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Murray, and Myles Price supplied an 86-yard punt-return touchdown. Will Reichard also made a 54-yard field goal as Minnesota held off Tampa Bay.
Those contributions allowed the Vikings to finish the game without forcing Jefferson back into action. They do not answer how the offense will be arranged against Miami if he needs more recovery time.
The distinction now is between an encouraging examination and game availability. The former reduces concern about an extended absence; the latter still depends on how the ankle responds when Jefferson increases his activity.
Minnesota will continue its preparation with that question unresolved. The next meaningful indications will come from practice participation and the team’s injury reports, rather than an assumption that favorable imaging guarantees an immediate return.
