Knicks, Karl-Anthony Towns extension talks stall before training camp

Karl-Anthony Towns and the Knicks are unlikely to reach an extension agreement before training camp after negotiations stalled, ESPN’s Shams Charania and Vincent Goodwill reported Wednesday. The sides have discussed a deal throughout the offseason without recent progress.

Towns is eligible for an extension worth up to $276 million over four years, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. He is owed $57 million this season and holds a $61 million player option for 2027-28, so he remains under contract regardless of whether an extension is completed now.

New York also has other major contract decisions approaching. Josh Hart is eligible for an extension, while Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby become eligible next offseason.

An agreement with Towns could still come during the season. For now, the reported standstill leaves the defending champions preparing for camp with one of their largest financial decisions unresolved.
