Valentin Vacherot Beats Taylor Fritz to Reach First Final of 2026
Vacherot defeated sixth seed Taylor Fritz in straight sets and will play Jiří Lehečka for the Swiss Indoors title.

Valentin Vacherot defeated Taylor Fritz 7–6(5), 6–3 in Saturday’s Swiss Indoors semifinal, reaching his first final of 2026 and setting up a championship match against Jiří Lehečka in Basel.
Fritz led 4–1 in the opening tiebreak and still held a 5–3 advantage before Vacherot won four consecutive points to take the set. The Monegasque had broken in the opening game, but Fritz recovered that break to keep the set level.
Vacherot saved a break point early in the second set, then broke Fritz to lead 5–3. He served out the match after the American saved two match points, converting his third opportunity to complete the victory.
The result gave Vacherot his first title match since winning the Shanghai Masters in October 2025. That breakthrough had been his only previous tour-level final. Saturday’s win took him through another semifinal against an established opponent, with sixth seed Fritz unable to force a third set.
The official tournament results record Vacherot’s earlier victories over Mariano Navone, Rafael Jódar and Holger Rune. He needed three sets against Jódar and Rune, defeating the Dane 6–3, 3–6, 6–3 in the quarterfinals before returning to court for Saturday’s meeting with Fritz.
Fritz reached the semifinal after Arthur Fils retired from their quarterfinal with the American leading 6–2, 2–0. Earlier in the week, Fritz had beaten Rinky Hijikata and Denis Shapovalov, while Vacherot’s opening win against Navone came in straight sets.
Vacherot and Fritz had met at the same tournament a year earlier, when Fritz won their opening-round match in three sets. Their second tour meeting reversed that result and left Vacherot one win from the title.
Lehečka earned his final place by saving a match point against Jan-Lennard Struff and winning 3–6, 7–5, 6–4. The two successful semifinal winners will meet Sunday.
